Updated: February 14, 2017

This quick guide has been put together to answer the common question of, "Which camera does Casey Neistat use?"

Casey Neistat is an American YouTube star renowned for his amazing filmmaking and vlogging. Casey and his brother, Van, have together created over 200 short films.

They created films like iPods dirty secret and Bike Thief. Casey started uploading videos on YouTube from February 2010. He was uploading funny videos at that time and it gained a lot of traction.

He then started vlogging on March 24th, 2015, which gained him a lot of fame and popularity. Vlogging made Casey a household name in America. He was vlogging daily and he was super committed to that. Unfortunately he stopped vlogging on November 19th, 2016 as he wanted to focus more on making short films, which he was doing at first.

But the good part is that he is still going to upload those short films on YouTube on a regular basis in place of his vlogs. Casey is one of the most popular vlogger of all time because of three simple reasons – consistency, quality and uniqueness. He was posting daily, quality vlogs with his own unique style.

People loved his unique style of vlogging and it stood out from the rest, as most of the other vloggers were vlogging in the same “digest of the day” style.

With that said, here is a quick breakdown of the main Casey Neistat Camera models he uses when vlogging, to give a complete answer to the question, "Which camera does Casey Neistat use?" Enjoy!

Casey has totally changed the way people used to record vlogs. He was the first to introduce an iconic setup of using gorilla pod with a DSLR.

Now as we see thousands of vloggers are following this step. You must have seen him carrying his 70D on the gorilla pod. The Canon 70D is his daily go to camera.

He not only carries his DSLR everywhere he goes in New York but also when he is travelling the camera goes with him. Casey loves the Canon 70D because of the features like fast and continuous auto focus, excellent battery life, wide lens, touch panel, etc.

The microphone on this vlogging camera is also good but as Casey, I also recommend you to get an external microphone for the best quality audio for your viewers.

Overall this is one of the best vlogging cameras available and Casey’s main vlogging camera.

2. CANON G7X

Camera Overview

This is one of the best point and shoot cameras for vlogging. It has really good features which helps in vlogging like excellent image stabilization, 24mm wide lens, flip over screen, and overall great image quality.

Having a wide lens is really crucial as most of the time you are going to create “talking in the screen” type videos. And if you don’t have wide lens, you won’t be able to create good quality videos at a shorter distance. The image stabilization is also quite handy, it will help you in creating great quality videos while you are walking, running, etc.

Casey is using this camera when his not using his 70D. He records footage for his vlog with this camera when he is on the move and don’t have his DSLR. So basically G7X is his backup and compact camera.

3. PHANTOM 4 DJI Drone

Camera Overview

Drone technology is evolving at a very fast rate. However even with new drones coming out every other month, the Phantom 4 is still Casey's first choice.
One of the best things about this drone, is that it has sensors in the front. So your drone won’t hit any obstacles in its way, instead it will find another way to reach its destination.

The drone is one of the best additions to Casey’s vlogging arsenal. Using this drone he has created astonishing videos portraying the world in a beautiful way.

Adding a drone in your vlogging arsenal will add a new and happening angle to your vlog. It will definitely increase your popularity as your content quality is going to get better.

A great feature with this drone, specifically for vloggers is that it actually follows you while you are moving and recording your vlog. This will allow you to naturally do the activity you are doing and let it record so that you won’t have to constantly concentrate on the drone or get a hand to help.

Casey is using this drone as his daily driver for capturing Ariel shots and at the same time it is one of the best drones out there for vloggers. It will allow you to add a completely new dimension to your vlog.

4. GOPRO Hero5 Black

Camera Overview

This is the upgraded version of the GoPro Hero. It allows you to record full action videos in 4k. As it predecessor it is also extremely durable and waterproof. It has really good features like voice control, touch display, one button control, and advanced video stabilization. GoPro Hero

GoPro hero is one of the best-selling action cameras in the world. GoPro is a new generation company which are creating cameras specifically for the selfie and vlogging generation.

One of the biggest reason why people go with GoPro cameras is because of the awesome durability and the ability to create underwater videos. Casey uses this camera for creating underwater videos for his vlog. The Gopro hero can record 1080p Full HD videos at 30 fps, it has a built in microphone and great video quality.

GoPro Hero5

The video stabilization feature works excellently. You can create really good videos while moving - or of a moving object. The GoPro series comes with an added benefit of numerous mounts and accessories support.

Unlike other cameras here you can select the, from a range of over 30 mounts created by GoPro itself to use the cameras in a totally different way. You can get mounts for your bike, helmet, etc.

Casey used to create his underwater videos for his vlogs using this the GoPro series and people really loved his underwater videos.

5. iPHONE 6

Camera Overview

The iPhone 6 is surprisingly the most recommended "vlogging camera" by the general public, especially for new people looking to try out vlogging for the first time. Why? Because chances are you already have an iPhone and the camera quality on it is actually really good.

As most of you will know, Casey has an iPhone 6 as well as the Samsung Galaxy S7. But he uses the iPhone 6 to create videos while he is running or that kind of activities.

He also uses the iPhone camera in the places were big chunky DSLR’s or even smaller cameras are not allowed. Although many people criticize it over time, the camera on the iPhone 6 is not bad at all. I mean, Casey uses it!

Obviously the iPhone 6 can’t be your daily go-to camera because it lacks some really great and necessary features for vloggers like wide angle lens, great aperture, etc. But it does a great job for creating videos when you don’t have your go-to camera with you.

Conclusion

This concludes the overview of which cameras Casey Neistat uses.

It was not that easy for Casey to magically find the perfect cameras for his exact needs. He actually had to go through the pain of trying many other cameras of different brands like Sony, Nikon, etc.

But clearly when he tried Canon, it provided the best quality video and overall user experience. Hence he stuck with Canon.

Less Used Casey Neistat Camera Models

Canon S120

This is a good vlogging camera for beginners. It can record in 1080p Full HD, the aperture is also good, 24mm wide lens, and the optical image stabilization is also not that bad.

Overall it’s a great camera for people getting in to the vlogging game. Actually, Casey also used this camera when he was first getting in to the vlogging game. Using it particularly because of its compact size.

GoPro Karma Drone

The GoPro Karma is not yet launched. But Casey, was able to get his hands on an early prototype. GoPro gave the early prototype to Casey to test it out and give them feedback of what his viewers thought.

Canon 80D

Canon 80D is a great DSLR. It has got almost all the awesome DSLR features like continuous autofocus, intelligent viewfinder, 45 point autofocus system, built in Wi-Fi, NFC, etc.

Overall it’s a really great camera. Casey actually used to use this camera quite a bit, but the audio quality was not that good even with the external microphone at that time. So he switched to Canon 70D. Later he found that the external microphone was faulty, but never tried the 80D again.

Casey Neistat Camera Cost

As mentioned earlier Casey is a film maker first and then a vlogger -- so uses his film making skills to an intensively high level, creating an entirely immersive and unique style of vlogging in the process.

This is one of the main factor for his success, and is what differentiates him from the rest all other vloggers. If you were to buy all the five cameras that Casey uses then it would cost you around $4,500.
